My Xbox 360 broke down recently, the famous Red-Ring-of-Death also visited my box. Now, the Xbox is still in The Netherlands, as I don’t have a need for it in the UK right now. So the problem doesn’t really affect me, only the temporary caretaker of my box. Depending on the status of my warranty, I’m considering a couple of options.

The first and most easy option is when the box is out of warranty. Then I will donate the box to the caretaker, perhaps for a small fee, and he can get it repaired and pay for that. In return, I will get a new one in the UK, probably the Elite edition.

That’s also an option when the box is still under warranty. I will get it repaired, ask a fee to the caretaker and get a new one myself. The other option is to get it repaired and pay for shipment to the UK after repairs. I’ll have to contact Microsoft to see if they can ship it directly to the UK and what the costs are for this.

With the price drops that have been announced today, it sure is tempting to get a new Xbox 360 in the UK. If I decide to get a new one, I almost certainly will go for the Elite version. But that also raises another problem, that I’ll have to convince my parents to drive to the UK with my TV in the back. My Sony Bravia KDL-40X2000 is less than a year old and I quite like it. I could sell it to my parents, but since I spent over €3000 on it, I’m not sure if I want to ask my parents a reasonable amount for it. And electronics aren’t particularly cheap here in the UK.

And if they come to the UK with the TV, I’ll have to figure out if I want my Vista Media Center as well. Or perhaps I switch to the AppleTV.
